Barbara Spagnolo graduated summa cum laude in Neurobiology, at University of Torino , by disserting a thesis on “Analysis of motor nervous systems and motor performance of APPPS1 mice, model for Alzheimer Disease”. Working on this subject she was involved in electrophysiological, behavioral and immunohistochemical experiments and data analysis. This included animal handling during in vivo experiments to analyze motor skills, neurosurgery (cerebellar peduncle lesions), single and multiunit electrophysiology and mouse perfusion/fixation. After a PhD in Biomolecular Nanotechnologies focused on the application of 3D micro and nanofabrication approaches applied to life science (cancer), she worked on the development of transgenic cell lines for optogenetics. In the last four years she also developed different optrode designs for simultaneous optical control and electrophysiological readout of neural activity and tested them in vivo. In 2021 she started to work in IIT@CBN as a support Technician for the Multifunctional Neural Interfaces with Deep Brain Areas research line where she manages and performs activities and experiments related to the in vivo testing of newly developd optoelectronic devices, partecipating also in their design and fabrication. Additionally, she is responsible for the draw up of the animal use protocols, required in research activities/projects involving vertebrate animals.
